How to Ask Better Questions in a Tarot Reading

"What Tarot Is And What It Isn't" made the case that tarot answers reflection, not prediction. This goes a step further — into the craft of the questions themselves, since the question shapes everything the reading can offer.

Open beats closed

"What should I consider about this decision?" gives the cards room to prompt reflection. A yes/no question shuts that down before it starts — there's nothing to think with.

Keep your agency in the question

Phrase questions that assume you'll act: "what might help me decide…", "what am I bringing to this…". Questions that hand the outcome over ("what will happen to me?") quietly give away the very agency the reading is meant to support.

Reframe prediction questions

When a "will it happen?" question surfaces, turn it around. "Will I get the job?" becomes "what should I weigh about this opportunity?" The reframing is the whole shift from foretelling to reflecting.

Get specific, and vary the angle

Vague questions get vague reflection; a focused question surfaces a focused prompt. It helps to keep a few angles handy: situation ("what's really going on with…"), perspective ("what am I not seeing…"), and next step ("what could I do about…").
