What it is

Eduvek is a digital education marketplace that brings courses, e-books, workshops, and live tutoring together under one curated brand. Rather than competing as a directory of thousands, it's built around a small, hand-picked group of instructors and tutors — each personally reviewed before being listed. Behind the storefront sits a full operational platform that handles the entire life of a lesson: booking, live video, confirmation, disputes, payouts, and refunds.

The challenge

Marketplaces are deceptively complex — but a live-tutoring marketplace is harder still. Beyond payments, a content catalog, and an application pipeline, it has to answer the questions a real tutoring business faces every day: How does a student find the right teacher? What happens when a lesson doesn't go ahead? Who gets paid, how much, and when? How do you handle a no-show fairly to both sides? The goal was to build a genuinely complete, trustworthy platform — one that could take real students and pay real teachers — not a hollow shell.

What I built

I designed and developed the entire platform end to end. On the surface, it's a multilingual storefront with full Stripe and PayPal checkout and a tutoring-purchase flow where students buy lessons directly from a tutor's profile. Underneath, it's a complete tutoring operations system.

New students are matched through a structured intro-session flow — a short evaluation with each tutor before committing to paid lessons, with a built-in path to switch teachers or request a refund if it isn't the right fit. Live video for the lessons themselves is built in and running. After each lesson, a two-sided confirmation system tracks whether it actually took place, with an automated resolution engine and an admin dispute queue backed by real attendance evidence for the rare cases that need a human decision.

The financial layer is the heart of it: a per-teacher monthly earnings ledger, a fair no-show and cancellation model that splits costs cleanly between teacher and student without the platform absorbing losses, and a reconciled revenue view that separates what the business has truly earned from what it owes teachers and what it's holding for lessons not yet delivered. Students can cancel or reschedule in advance on their own, and teachers are paid through a safeguarded, auditable payout system.

All of it is run from an admin dashboard that turns an application into a live, listed teacher — reviewing, approving, publishing, resolving disputes, issuing payouts — without ever touching code.

Trust runs through the whole design. Students accept versioned terms at checkout with a signed, evidenced record, and reviews are collected on a rolling cycle, filtered for abuse and off-topic complaints, and moderated so a false review can be removed without dragging down an honest teacher's rating. Students and instructors transact entirely through the platform and never see each other's personal contact details — a line held consistently across booking, lessons, and live video. Every consequential action, from a suspension to a hidden review, is written to an append-only audit log. Authentication and account email run through the platform's own branded email system, so every confirmation and password reset reaches students reliably from the Eduvek domain rather than a generic sender.

Beyond the code, I built the business itself: I personally recruited, vetted, and onboarded the founding cohort of instructors across languages, business, academic, and wellness subjects, and led every function as a solo founder — product, engineering, design, marketing, and operations, from brand identity and SEO to legal agreements and go-to-market.

Key features

  • Stripe + PayPal payments with server-verified totals
  • Structured intro-session matching with teacher-switch and refund paths
  • Self-serve scheduling — tutors set their own timezone and weekly availability, which activates booking automatically, with students seeing every slot converted to their own local time
  • Integrated live video lessons with disclosed admin observation and stable participant identity
  • Two-sided lesson confirmation with an automated resolution engine
  • Admin dispute queue backed by real attendance evidence
  • Fair no-show, cancellation, and 24-hour reschedule model
  • No-fault technical-failure resolution — a lesson lost to a genuine technical problem is credited back to the student with no penalty to either side
  • Student-protection safeguards — a persistent confirmation prompt and post-lesson reminder ensure a student can always confirm a lesson or dispute a wrongful no-show before the window closes
  • Two-sided pre-lesson reminders — manual nudges from teacher or admin plus an automated backstop so no student misses an upcoming lesson
  • Per-teacher monthly earnings ledger with safeguarded payouts
  • Reconciled revenue view (earned / owed / deferred)
  • Instructor-facing revenue dashboard — each instructor sees their own monthly earnings (tutoring at 90%, materials and group courses at 70%), computed from the same source as the admin view so the numbers always match exactly
  • Curated application-to-live-profile pipeline with a legal agreement step
  • Multi-category instructor discovery — instructors are tagged across the subjects they teach and surface under each one, so students find the right teacher by subject, not a flat list
  • Sanctions-compliance screening on applications
  • Admin dashboard with full review, approval, publishing, and payout controls
  • Signed Student Terms captured at checkout — versioned, with typed signature, frozen terms text, and full evidence (IP, timestamp, device) for a defensible legal record
  • Student reviews and ratings on a rolling 5-lesson prompt cycle, published honestly by default, with abuse and off-topic filtering and admin moderation that keeps false reviews out of a teacher's average
  • Disclosed live observation — admins can join any live lesson as a visible observer for quality assurance
  • Platform-wide master schedule showing every lesson across all instructors, including sessions in progress
  • Downloadable receipts for both courses and tutoring, with a tax-ready structure
  • Privacy by design — students and instructors never see each other's contact details anywhere on the platform, including live video
  • Self-serve and admin account management — verified email change, suspension, and termination — with append-only audit logging throughout
  • Branded transactional email for authentication — email confirmation, password reset, and email-change verification, all delivered from the platform's own domain rather than a generic default sender
  • Guided signup and confirmation flow — a clear post-signup confirmation panel, a resend-confirmation option, and a dedicated confirmation page that activates the account and signs the student in
  • Teacher-side rescheduling and cancellation — instructors can reschedule penalty-free (including for genuine emergencies), with reasons logged and reliability patterns surfaced to admin
  • Instructor reliability tracking that surfaces patterns of reschedules, late cancellations, and no-shows to admin
  • Automated reminders and notifications
  • Multilingual, SEO-ready architecture
  • Founding instructor cohort personally recruited, vetted, and onboarded across languages, business, academic, and wellness subjects
