Workplace Stress: Managing Pressure, Posture and Recovery at Work

Workplace stress is the pressure that builds from deadlines, workload, difficult conversations and long hours at a desk — and, left unchecked, it shows up in both how you feel and how your body holds up. Managing it is less about escaping pressure than about recovering well inside it.

Dr. Mark Halpern has taught workplace and corporate wellness since 2000, alongside 30 years as a chiropractor working with busy professionals — lawyers among them. He brings together two things most stress advice keeps separate: the physical side (posture and desk strain) and the nervous-system side (short resets you can do between meetings without anyone noticing).

What you'll learn

  • How workplace pressure shows up in the body, not just the mood
  • Desk posture and simple ways to ease physical strain during the day
  • Short breathing and coherence resets you can do between meetings
  • Recovering during the workday instead of only after it
  • Noticing early signs before pressure tips into burnout
  • Building small, sustainable habits into a working week

Who it's for

Professionals under sustained pressure, desk-bound workers dealing with tension and fatigue, managers who want practical tools for themselves and their teams, and anyone whose job quietly follows them home.

Pressure lands in the body, not just the inbox

By the middle of a demanding day, workplace stress is usually physical: shoulders creeping up, a forward-hunched posture at the screen, breathing gone shallow, a low hum of tension that doesn't switch off. Thirty years of treating desk-bound professionals — lawyers included — taught Dr. Mark to take that physical side seriously.

Small adjustments to how you sit, and short breaks to reset posture and breath, add up over a working week more than most people expect.

Recover during the day, not only after it

Most people try to recover from work only once the day is over. Dr. Mark teaches recovery inside the day instead: brief, unobtrusive resets — a slower breath, a moment of coherence practice, a posture reset — used between meetings and tasks.

Having taught corporate wellness since 2000, he keeps the tools deliberately simple and discreet, so they fit real jobs rather than requiring you to step out of them.

Workplace Wellness, Stress Physiology & Resilience

Dr. Mark Halpern is a chiropractor, author and lecturer who graduated from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in Toronto in 1996 and has spent 30 years working with people of all ages — from children and exhausted parents to athletes, lawyers and retired teachers. He is a certified HeartMath practitioner and is also certified in PSYCH-K and Hoʻoponopono. Across his career, he has focused on one question: how stress shapes the way we feel, think and live, and what we can do about it. For over 30 years, Dr. Mark lived with anxiety himself. During the first COVID lockdown, he decided to face it head on. He went back through every book, method and practice he had tried, kept the tools that genuinely worked, and let go of the habits that didn't. That process became his book, **The Coherence Revolution: Finding Flow on Your Journey to the Present Moment**, a practical guide to self-regulation and self-inquiry. On Eduvek, Dr. Mark teaches how stress affects the body and mind — from posture and physical strain to burnout and anxiety — and gives students practical tools and a guided process to build resilience and learn to self-regulate their emotions. His approach is inspired by authors and mentors including Dr. Joe Dispenza, Dr. Bruce Lipton and Gregg Braden. Outside of teaching, he loves hiking, skiing, scuba diving, golf and cycling — especially challenges that keep him fully in the moment — and he's a guitar-playing music lover with a soft spot for Jerry Garcia and the Grateful Dead. *These courses support general wellbeing and stress management. Frequently asked questions

  • I can't change my workload — can this still help?

Yes. Much of workplace stress management is about how you recover inside the pressure, not removing it. Short resets and posture changes are things you control even when the workload isn't.

  • Do I need to leave my desk?

Not necessarily. Many of the resets — a slower breath, an eased posture, a brief moment of coherence practice — are discreet enough to do at your desk between tasks.

  • Can this help my team, not just me?

The tools are simple enough to share, which is part of why Dr. Mark has taught them in corporate settings since 2000. This page is a starting point for the individual skills.

  • When is workplace stress more than a wellbeing issue?

If it's affecting your health, sleep or mood in a lasting way, please speak to a doctor or licensed professional. These sessions support general wellbeing and aren't a substitute for that care.
